Note: Deer have been having a party at the willow patch, so unfortunately some of the plants have been damaged. Where required I will be substituting the Scottish willow with Somerset willow.

Classic oval shopping basket made using traditional techniques and will last a lifetime. Beautiful flow to the sides. Made using entirely organically grown Scottish willow from my patch in Lanarkshire, carries the Scottish Working Woods label. So comfy to carry on your arm even with a good weight in. The base is made in the ‘underfoot’ way, using sturdy willows, and some of the sides wrap into the handle making it really strong.

This is an adaptation of a design taught to me by John Cowan, who in turn learnt it from Colin Manthorpe, one of the last apprenticed basketmakers to the industry when basketmaking was still a trade one could train in. What I was amazed at when I first tried the dimensions was how well it fits the human body- the design has probably been worked out and refined over hundreds of years.
